The Story of the 1993 Ryder Cup in the Belfry Golf Club - Sutton Coldfield, UK
The European Ryder Cup team led by one point going into the final day of singles golf matches. With home advantage this should have proved an ideal platform for Europe to win the 1993 Ryder Cup trophy. Unfortunately for the Europeans the history of this golf competition shows that the American golfers come into their own in the singles matches. The 1993 edition of the Ryder Cup was true to form and the US golfers won six matches and halved two others to secure the 30th Ryder Cup.
Rookie Davis Love III had a memorable Ryder Cup debut and inspired his more experience golfing colleagues. More established golfers also made significant contributions especially Chip Beck who retained his unbeaten record in singles matches. This is despite the fact that he found himself down three holes against Barry Lane of England.
The veteren Raymond Floyd beat Jose Maria Olazabal of Spain 2-up in their singles match and Tom Kite trounced European stalwart Bernhard Langer 5 & 3.
