In addition Europes star players, Sergio Garcia of Spain, Jesper Parnevik of Sweden, Lee Westwood of England and Darren Clarke of Ireland all lost their singles matches. Despite this and the fact that the US won 8 matches on the last day they still needed to half one more match to bring back the Ryder Cup to America. Every Ryder Cup throws up a hero and in 1999 it was Justin Leonard. With just 7 holes to play he found himslef down by 4 holes - a mountain to climb by golfing standards.
